On behalf of the organising committee and of the Geological Society of Australia (GSA), the host organisation, I would like to invite you to attend the XXII General Meeting of the International Mineralogical Association, IMA2018, to be held between the 13th and 17th of August 2018 at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre (MCEC), in beautiful downtown Melbourne, Australia! Situated on the banks of the Yarra River, and only a short stroll to the Central Business District (CBD), the MCEC is Australia’s most versatile convention and exhibition facility, and was the first ‘6 Star Green Star’ environmentally rated convention centre in the world.
Over the five-day program, you will get the chance to engage with all aspects of mineralogical sciences, and have an opportunity to learn and be challenged by the content. The conference will feature one exciting plenary per day, as well as the classic IMA sessions such as crystallography and petrology. You will also have the opportunity to explore topical areas through panel discussions. Business meetings of the IMA and the various working groups can be held either before the conference on Sunday, August 12 or during the meeting.
One aspect of the IMA conference that many of us love is the field trips! We will be able to offer several short and longer field trips in Victoria and also further afield, giving you an opportunity to explore Australia and enjoy its splendour! We will provide more details closer to the dates.
Although 2018 is a long way away, we hope that you will put a place marker in your diary and keep us in your mind as you plan your future conference attendances. We will be seeing you at many conferences on the way to 2018 so come by and chat to us there, and visit our website to find out more about Melbourne and keep yourself updated about IMA2018!
I look forward to seeing you in Melbourne!
