IMA Scholarships

3The International Mineralogical Association (IMA) together with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of IMA2018 are pleased to announce the winners of the International Mineralogical Association IMA2018 Scholarship.

Hassan Mohamed Helmy
Department of Geology, Minia University, Egypt
I would like to attend the International Mineralogical Association Conference as it is an important platform to present the advances in mineralogical sciences. Most recent achievements in the field are presented in such a conference. In addition, all scientific organisations related to geological and mineralogical sciences gather at this conference. Attending this international scientific forum and presenting my recent scientific achievements is a great honor.
In addition, I am the Egyptian Representative of the Mineralogical Society of Egypt (one of the IMA active societies) and the Secretary of the Commission of Ore Mineralogy. With the IMA2018 Scholarship, I am able to attend the planned COM business meeting and convene the planned session to be suggested by COM during IMA2018.
Ruslan I. Kostov
University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski” Sofia, Bulgaria
Bulgaria is among the first countries to become members of the International Mineralogical Association. As a national representative of my country it is a honour to be part of the scientific community at the IMA congress in Melbourne, Australia. I hope to strengthen and broaden the existing international links and expand the national institutional activities.
Fernando Colombo
CONICET and Universidad Nacional de Cordoba, Argentina
Electronic means of communication make it possible today to establish and maintain working relationships with researchers from other places, no matter how far they live and work. However, nothing replaces the fact of actually meeting them, sharing experiences and knowledge, making arrangements to start new collaborative projects, and at the same time make new friends (and see again the old ones).

The IMA2018 meeting, where many foremost mineralogists gather, is THE forum for this. Another exciting issue that I look forward to is to learn about new theories, facts and interpretations, before they appear in print.

Winning this scholarship enables the winners to travel to Melbourne, Australia and attend the XXII Meeting of the International Mineralogical Association, to be held from the 13th to the 17th of August 2018 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. A round-trip airfare, accommodation and meeting attendance (including the gala dinner) are provided to the winners.

We congratulate the winners and look forward to welcoming them to Melbourne for what is shaping up to be a great meeting.
